HAUSFRAU NEWS

Join me at "Homecoming"--a woman's retreat (October 3 – 5th, 2008) at Kingsley Pines in Maine, where I'll be teaching a writing workshop* and there will also be yoga, belly dancing, meditation, and much more.

Click on the link to see a short video and register:

* We'll examine the structure and implications of the classic “hero’s journey” within a female context. With writing as our tool, we will work to identify that which we long to give birth to--and discover the paths and dragons that we must confront as part of our journey.

I love Cat Dancer!

The Hausfrau and family and dear friends Cindy and Tom from L.A. went to the Portland PeaceFest on July 14th and participated in forming the world's largest human peace sign. Tom took my picture with Cat Dancer!

So groovy!

Tune in to Chip Edgar's Home Dad Radio show on WMPG (1:00 p.m. on Tuesdays at 90.9 and 104.1 FM or streamed live at http://www.wmpg.org/) on Tuesday March 6th and listen to the Hausfrau chronicling her family's recent trip to a certain theme park in central Florida.

Hausfrau and pal writer Raye Tibbitts gave a talk about mama zines to the Maine Media Women in Bremen, Maine on Saturday November 4. What a great group of women! Maine Media Women was founded back in the 50s, when women weren’t allowed to join the Press Club. So many stories!

The Hausfrau discusses her un-hip tatoos and piercings on Halloween 2006 on Chip Edgar's Home Dad Radio show on WMPG (1:00 p.m. on Tuesdays at 90.9 and 104.1 FM or streamed at http://www.wmpg.org/).

Check out the overview of the mama zine revolution in issue #32 of Broken Pencil, a Canadian mag. The hausfrau is mentioned--and so is Ayun Halliday, Kate Haas, China Martens, Stacey Greenburg, and Ariel Gore--in a feature entitled "Radical Mamas and the Naptime Revolution" by Audrey Gagnon. Cool!

Thanks to everyone who made the Hausfrau third anniversary party and benefit at Door 463 a fun time as well as a success. We raised $336 to go to the Common Ground Collective, providing grassroots relief work to the Gulf Coast area. Special thanks to Jodi Thomas and Door 463, Amy Thompson, MC extraordinaire and winner of the bad mother gift basket raffle, Vanessa Torres and Touching Ground, Poor Valley Salvation Society, and everyone who brought food and beverages.

Hausfrau muthah-zine #9 made the Utne Reader's From the Stacks as a staff pick, and is touted as "a punchy parenting zine out of Portland, Maine."
